Central role of women
The Mediterranean Convention of human Rights recognizes the central role of women as fundamental for the promotion of peace and democracy in the Mediterranean area.
For this reason, it is committed to activating projects that create equal opportunities for women compared to men and facilitate female participation in decision-making processes at all levels.
A common Purpose
There are different stages of development of the role of women in society, linked both to cultural and historical issues, and to political problems that have become more pronounced especially in the last decade. The struggle of women is, however, unavoidable in all parts of the world and, especially in some contexts, it must deal with the inevitable attempts of instrumentalization by those who manage power.
The attempt to bring us back to the past
What is clear is what lies behind the measures of certain governments: attempts to restore order to chaos, to return to an idealized past in which the idea of family is one in which gender roles are encouraged as traditions that ensure stability. Thus, rolling back women's progress enters the political agenda.
The commitment that unites us
Regardless of the differences existing in the various contexts, the commitment to defending their rights is common to all women. In an attempt to respect the various differences that the Convention considers an asset, a survey was started (via Questionnaire) of the needs of women in the countries participating in the Project and the priorities they assigned to the various areas. It emerged that the first place was occupied by the issue of Health, immediately followed by Free Time and Work.
Our Micro-Stories
Starting from micro-stories and rereading the actions produced in the light of theoretical contributions is a first step towards a deeper understanding of the problem and the dissemination of a more authentic knowledge of the places and traditions of the various Mediterranean countries.
Because knowledge produced "from below" can have great relevance in the transformation of History.
